As a teaching artist and member of the Mississippi Artist Roster, Benjamin Morris offers writing instruction to groups of all ages and backgrounds. Offering workshops, critiques, and classes for beginners and more experienced writers alike, he has worked with students in a wide variety of places, traditions, and educational environments.
Instruction focuses both on work the students have written — poetry, fiction, and nonfiction — as well as work by established writers to illustrate concepts and principles of writing. For students with less exposure to writing, workshops offer introductory approaches and exercises, and for those with more experience, master classes include detailed critiques of their work and recommendations for further reading, study, and writing exercises. In each case, students leave both with a constructive, honest assessment of their work and materials for future reference.
Schools, institutions, and organizations within Mississippi are eligible for grant support from the Mississippi Arts Commission to sponsor workshops and appearances; more information is available on the MAC website.
Interested organizations or hosts should get in touch to discuss rates, opportunities, and availability.
