This week I’ll be visiting Melba’s on Elysian Fields for their lunchtime book series, speaking about St Joe Bricks and the new article in 64 Parishes. Come grab a po-boy and a copy of the magazine! Starts on Friday, April 21st at noon.

Lecture on Gulf South Poetics at NOPF 2023
Next month I’m delighted to be giving a lecture on the poetics of the American Gulf South at the 2023 New Orleans Poetry Festival, focusing on the state of Mississippi — this talk will be a revised and updated version of the lecture from last year at the Mississippi Poetry Society, with new works and new poets under discussion. Even better news is that poet and critic C.T. Salazar will serve as the respondent for the lecture. Both of us are looking forward to a great conversation.
Details on NOPF 2023 (including how to register) are at nolapoetry.com; the talk will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, April 15.
St Joe Bricks now live
Delighted to say that the St Joe Bricks article is now live at 64 Parishes magazine — my thanks again to the editors and to all those who aided in the research. We hope to add additional photos from the brickyard that didn’t make it into the print version, so check back if you’re interested and I’ll post an update if and when that happens.
POL 2023
What a joy to serve once more as a judge for the Mississippi state finals of the 2023 Poetry Out Loud competition, held this year at Mississippi Public Broadcasting on Thursday, March 9. The contest is open to the public and always features amazing poems — if you’re in the area, drop by!
